New SONG: Backyard bonfire
Release Date: March 20, 2025

JoDan Music

After a breakup with someone you’ve been living with for years, the little things get you – a Hallmark card that says your love is forever, Champaign glasses from your anniversary night toast, pictures of the two of you all smiles and looking so happy, things that meant so much and now mean nothing. The list could go on and on. Everywhere you look something is mocking you, reminding you of the years that now seem wasted, that now seem like a lie. Or maybe a really bad joke.

Backyard Bonfire, a smooth rock song that flirts with country, is about letting go. After the break-up, the singer is gathering everything that reminds her of the failed relationship, throwing it all into the flames, watching her memories, like the orange glowing embers, drift away with the smoke along with her dream of a their future together.

It’s a symbolic way of closing off the past, reducing it to ashes and looking forward to the new day with care and best wishes for the other person and faith in herself.

In short, it’s a breakup song that says I wish you well, and I’m moving on.

Acknowledgments: Dan’s excellent production and engineering skills added so much to this song. the cover art which is a favorite of mine began with an image taken from a video of a bonfire shot by Cotton Wilburn. Thanks Cotton.

Author’s Note: I wanted to write a break-up song that was determined but not hateful, that says I still wish you well, but I’m looking for the new day.

Listen Here to the song. (after March 20)
