Oklahoma Red Dirt Grit

Everybody needs a bit of grit.

Written as a tribute to my home state, this song has an uplifting message, a laid-back groove, and a definite rock sound that everyone can enjoy.

I grew up in Oklahoma where people seem to have an uncommon inner strength. Legend has it that it comes from the iron-rich red clay dirt. A bit of it will give you grit and fortitude. This is a song about that. It’s for you even if you are not from Oklahoma, but especially if you are. Everyone needs a bit of Oklahoma Red Dirt Grit.

When I first started writing my blog I wrote one about Oklahoma’s red dirt, its legend, and the memories it sparked. Dan Wilburn, my husband and partner, suggested we write this song from the blog’s title and subject matter, Oklahoma Red Dirt Grit. He immediately put together a cool chord progression and the beginnings of the arrangement, and my lyric and melody fell into place.

For a bit more about the story behind the song, read the blog entry: Oklahoma Red Dirt Memories. (The initial blog that started it all was Oklahoma Red Dirt, back when I was still working on a book that is now complete but sits idle on my computer.)
