Work in progress
Tumbleweed
Jo Ann was born in a small town in Oklahoma. While she was still a young child, her parents moved the family to California and lived as itinerant workers, staying in migrant camps for about three years before returning to Oklahoma. Jo Ann’s realistic novel, Tumbleweed, nearing completion, is based on her parent’s journey during those years, and its life-changing effects on her and her family.
In Tumbleweed (working title) Jo Ann explores the issue of family dynamics and how good and caring parents who must focus on the basics, putting food on the table and finding a place to sleep at night, can be blind to devastating events and emotional turmoil within their own family.

REVIEW
Winds of Change Audio Book (Stories and Songs)
“Winds of Change” blew me away. From the beginning of this original work by JoAnn Vickers Wilburn I was hooked. I found myself transported into the story becoming more involved with each narrative passage. In this story we find ourselves completely enthralled by the character Julie as we follow her from teenager through mid-adult years. Wilburn’s moving and sensitive characterization of Julie navigates this story with a depth and brilliance that commands the listener to be completely immersed in this drama.
The end of each chapter of this story is song performed by Wilburn. This music to me is like an encore to what has already been a great performance. The author, in a very effective way, uses this original music as its exclamation point as well as a way to transition.
Wilburn’s voice is reminiscent of those great ladies of song like Baez, Mitchell, and Rondstadt. Every not is found, felt, and placed precisely where it should be.
The entirety of “Winds of Change” leaves you in the end feeling you have just been absorbed into someone’s life. I found myself in the solitude of my den wanting to applaud out loud as if it were a live theatrical performance.
JoAnn Wilburn’s great talents would make this a great one woman show. Please someone let me know where I can buy my ticket in advance!
