When we look back things seem so clear and simple. Yet they were not clear and simple to us at the time. We look at who we were compared to who we are and try to understand how we got from there to here.
Like so many woman, I grew up with the myths that the way for a woman to be happy is to find her knight in shining armor, her white knight. I believed someone would come along and rescue me, prove my worth by loving me perfectly, and I would be happy ever after.
This video features the song White Knight. I wrote it as part of the Winds of Change project, a theme album that spans the phases of a relationship, a marriage, which, like so many, began in fantasy and eventually ended in divorce and a new beginning.
The song White Knight, the second on the album, represents the first phase, the initial attraction and infatuation, and is written from the viewpoint, the mindset of the story’s young protagonist/singer without considering any looking-back insight.

White Knight Lyric
I was walkin’ home, my mind pre-occupied
with all my problems at home
He pulled alongside and I got in for the ride
I didn’t want to be alone.
He reached out and took my hand,
Said girl I know just how hard life can be
I want to be your friend and try to understand
Oh girl, if you’ll let me.
I was a damsel in distress
He was my white knight
chargin’ in to rescue me
and take up my fight
I look at him and see love and laughter
I look at him and see happy ever after
I’ve opened up my heart, opened up my mind
To show him all I’m made of
He gives me something I’ve been tryin’ to find
He’s all I know about love
There is magic in his kiss
my prince, my hero,
and in his touch, a promise
a fairy tale tomorrow.
I was a damsel in distress
He was my white knight
chargin’ in to rescue me
and take up my fight
I look at him and see love and laughter
I look at him and see happy ever after

For this video I used several images and a couple video clips from the web, all designated as free use — don’t want to infringe on anyone’s rights. I want to say Thank you to all the artists who uploaded content and generously agreed to let others freely use the images. The main video I used in parts of the verses came from pexel.com and was done by cottonbro. Thanks especially to him.

Note: I’ve been working consistently on my final search and destroy pass (doing cuts) for my book Tumbleweed. So, although we have a song we want to record soon, we have not gotten it done. I had to stop on the book to do a few personal business tasks including taxes – yuk. While I’m stopped, I created and posted this video for one of my previously recorded songs, and will post something additional about Tumbleweed, before I return to the dreadful slaughter.
I hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for listening, and reading… Jo Wilburn
